Super Experience in Fort Myers.

From June 2nd to June 10th, I finally took a much needed vacation to Fort Myers. I rented a 3 wheeler and was all over the entire area. Fort Myers Beach, Sanibel Island, and the cities of Fort Myers and Cape Coral. Although I did encounter a few spotty neighborhoods that appeared a bit choppy, especially just southeast of downtown, my experience was still awesome. I also checked out Edison Mall, the Ricochet Nightclub, Hooters, and several other amazing places.

Nothing like a much needed vacation, which, for me, can be defined as a week off followed by an off week. I think I still have a Sanibel Island tee shirt. Not that I've been there or even knew where it was! Just something I picked up from a local place that does a lot of screen printing for places like that. Now (if I can find it) I can tell folks; "Oh yeah, that's down by Fort Myers." Glad you had a great time and welcome back to the real world!

I've been to Sanibel! Of course, it's Sanibel Village, a condo community in Delaware

Well, then you can borrow my tee shirt, BB. I think I wore it while painting so you shouldn't look at all like a tourist with it.

By the way, the neighborhoods I explored in Fort Myers include; Pine Manor, Broadway Circle, Villa Capri, Seminole Park historic district, East Dunbar, Velasco village, and Lincoln park.

By the way, while on another more recent vacation, I created a disposable account on city data did a post about my Fort Myers experience, and guess what... several posters practically bashed the crap out of me for going through Pine Manor and Dunbar!

Wow. I just looked up those two areas. Both seem to have about 40% of the population living below the poverty line. East Dunbar was 92% black during the 2000 census.

Yes, I did actually see a lot of African American people in Dunbar. But there were a few scattered caucasions here and there in Dunbar. I also did note that a few parts of Dunbar seemed a little run down and possibly a bit choppy.

Sanibel is beautiful. Its a tough adjustment for Florida East Coasters to get used to swimming in the West Coast Gulf (the Gulf Beaches are SOOOOOO different), but nice nonetheless.

If you get the tie to visit the area again and go just a bit southward, Marco Island is a fascinating (but very developed enclave), If you aren't a resident it is hard to find beach access, but it remind me amlost of parts of palm beach, but stuck somewhere near the everglades hidden by a long bridge...And not much else around.

Still enjoyable as an off the path excursion, diffrent, not exactly "natural" because of all the development, but beautiful in its own way, and much of the ocean front development is done with nice architecture and planning. If I reember correctly, near the bridge there is some sefood celebration, or seafood related tour, restaurant, boat excursion, or something of the sort, I barely remember, but at the bridge there was till a slice of old florida before you hit the development.

Great news; I went back to Fort Myers again, this time for 10 days, from June 8th to June 17th. And believe it or not, this time I rented a faster bike and more than less finished off exploring Fort Myers, having this time gone through numerous new neighborhoods, including Tice. Explored more of McGregor Blvd, Edison avenue, Fowler street, Broadway avenue, and even managed about a mile stretch of Palm Beach Blvd. I also explored about half of Cape Coral, more of Sanibel Island, Fort Myers Beach, even Bonita Springs beach, and also this time rode the Key West Ferry and took a roll around Key West, too. And this time, knowing where the Fort Myers ghetto is and stuff, I was a lot more confident about my safety.

I still need to check out the Fort Meyers and Cape Coral area some time. Southwest Florida is the only part that I have never visited. I have not been south of Sarasota on that coast.

I have seen some crazy cheap deals on houses in that area built during the bubble.
