Default Cost of Living in Los Angeles

It is my understanding that L.A.'s sales tax is going from 8.25 to 10%, income taxes will be raised as well as gasoline tax and car registration. That should work out well with 10% unemployment, layoffs, and foreclosures at an all time high. Looks like I got out just in time.

The taxes in California make ours here in CT look cheap- a sales tax of 10% -ouch!
With the income tax going up- and the states local taxes- its going to kill the economy for several years.

We are in a deepening recession here in New England as well- but not seeing the kind of pain like the Golden state is seeing.

It's still a hell lot less than living in London. At least y'all gots the sunshine and palmtrees. But seriously I was lucky to get out when I did, even though I would be there in a heart beat if it was the way it was in the 80's and early 90's.

The other day I was looking at a town house I rented in Austin between '98 n 2000. It's now a private town house community and mainly owner occupier. The same 2 bedroom property in say parts of the San Fernando Valley I lived in would cost me a minimum $500,000. I feel like emailing the broker because there has to be a mistake in the price, I mean even Austin is getting up there in house prices.

Actually I might email her and invite her to post here.
