Ocean
Rockies/Desert
Plains of the Midwest
Green Mountains of the east?
I'd like to be out west where there's fewer people, but the landscape seems harsh. As far as landscape I like to look out over the plains or the green mountains, but those places can be harsh in the winters...

But also the east coast- New England is wonderful- the changing soft light of the seasons gives so many colors, different lights- that are never harsh.

Geesh Joe your having a hard time with this one:tongue:
My vote goes to the Midwest, you know Indiana:biggrin:
The ocean is okay, but it does suck when Red Tide rolls in...ugh!
Farthest west I have been is Colorado, sorry didn't care much for the tumbleweeds rolling in the dirt...ugh!
Have not been to the Green Mountains, but I have been to the White Mountains in NH. Absoulutely beautiful!!! Awwe the drive on the Kangusmangus(SP?) Highway was spectacular. My husband's family is all from NH and Maine. I'm not sure if I ever would want to live there though:neutral:

Give me the Rockie and rough terrain any day. Snow capped mountains, the largest elk herds in the world, moose, bear, mountain lions, and deer and I'm a happy camper.
Fishing the high mountain lakes when it's 80 degrees out and the water is 32.2 is breath taking to say the least.
Going to a Rodeo in 100 degree heat during the day and then going home that evening to where there's still snow in the shady areas. That's living.

What a country! There is almost one of everything somewhere around this country ... and I've pretty much seen it all many times - although I've been gone from 'The South' for decades. I love the Oceans - really I do ... power in the waves, isolation on the seas, fun on the beach and wonder in the lagoons. But I love the mountains - especially the ones where nobody goes ... where the trails lead away into the wind and erase the very thought of every corner you've turned in your life.
I liked the deserts too - like living on the moon - wrapped in the awesome silence of night or suffocated by the heavy wet blanket of air that ain't even supposed to be in a dry desert.
I used to think that pulling myself up the sides of those "green mountains of the east" - was mountain-climbing. One trip to the Rockies and I realized I was merely bramble-hopping. I did like the Smokies - all my family came from around there at some point in time no matter where they came from before.
The "Plains of the Midwest" are nice - I mean, even though one knows better, you can drive or walk those winding backroads where it doesn't look like "The Plains" and get the feeling that you're in unchartered lands ... It's all about where you feel right - where you find love - where you have a moment that changes your day ... or your life.
Sometimes, we call it home.
And here I am, in Texas. Jumpin' Jiminy ... are any of those 4 choices found in Texas? Oh ... yeah ... Ocean! (or, nearly so). Well, it's just nice to know that no matter where we are, we can take a moment against the backdrop of the sky ... maybe take a pull on the ol' pipe (I don't smoke it no mo') ... and just keep looking forward.

Joe, having spent 30 years all over the Rockies, I can mention a few things: Too much pressure on either the heart (for those with conditions) or on the lungs (for those with conditions). Too dry for the skin of many people. Too high a UV index for sensitive skin. Too cold for some tastes and also for people on certain medications ... and folks in the east get a liking for a multitude of trees and forests rather than the very common "sticks with leaves" strewn about the Rockies. Not to mention the many varieties of plants and vegetables NOT adaptable to the region.
I do miss the vistas though.
