The Exeter incident was a highly-publicized UFO sighting that occurred in September 1965, approximately 5 miles from Exeter, New Hampshire, in the neighboring community of Kensington. Although several separate sightings had been made by numerous witnesses in the weeks leading up to September 3, the specific incident, eventually to become by far the most famous, involved a local teenager and two police officers. The Exeter incident remains listed as unexplained by the United States Air Force.

Long ago I read David Hunt's Incident At Exeter. It was a truly great read. Apparently there were many other UFO sightings in the fall of 1965 in the northeast. And even though it has been thoroughly explained, the great northeast blackout, which occurred on Nov. 9 of that year, also coincided with several sightings.
I don't quite understand why the USAF always seems to choose the role of total buffoons when it comes to their nonchalant dismissals of these events.
That Wiki article is consistent with the book, btw.

The USAF tells the public what they are told by the higher ups-- there has been a cover up regarding UFO's going back to the time of Truman- every US President since then has basically 'lied'. I wonder what Obama has been told.

I have never reached the point where I'm totally ready to "believe" in aliens/UFO's, etc. Oh, I want to but without something more tangible than standing in my driveway watching a cigar move thru the heavens, more tangible than living with my ex, more tangible than my fellow "stool-ies" at the bar, more tangible than the lady down the street with the 22-inch wart growing from her eyebrow ... I just have to keep it easy, keep it light and let it go.
However, regarding what Obama has been told or what any sitting president gets told ... I think immediately back to the movie "Independence Day" where the President wasn't told due to "plausible deniability" ... and I wonder ... hmmmm

Yes, perhaps any President is kept in the dark regarding extraterrestrials - what happens when they swoop down?
