For anyone interested in Clear Lake...The lake is beautiful and I do enjoy sitting by it when I'm up there. Also it is one of the best Bass lakes and there are lots of Bass boats up there every year. It is a poor man's area. And where lots of poor folks go to retire. My mom lives there and feels pretty safe. They took away the senior's bingo and that really fired mom up Now she has to go all the way to one of the casinos to play bingo.
Homes are very affordable there. As far as the drug scene goes...yeah it is there. But the mood in the town isn't like the BAD part of a larger city. There is still a country feel to the area and it is beautiful...not like a BAD inner city ugly.
But you do have to watch who you make friends with like anywhere. Well got to go.

Is it a man made lake? I know I have seen it on fishing competitions on TV.

Hubby says it is a natural lake, with some lockes (whatever those are). I know my mom says they have big bass contests up there every year. It is a pretty lake. It gets green sometimes from plant material.
But you can get a trailer space about 20 ft. from the lake for around $300. a month. Not a bad way to retire.:) Mom likes the pace.

Yes, Clear Lake itself is cheap living. The other towns on the lake are bit more expense. Clear lake use to be called the highlands. It was a very popular place to spend the summers in the early to mid 90's. Lots of little motels with their own docks. Fewer of those now.
The problem with the area is not enough employment. So you get folks who have retired or are on welfare. But it sure is a pretty place to be poor in:) Not like the city and it's poor neighborhoods.

I'm in Clear Lake area tonight. Actually, a little lake called Blue Lake...just down the road from Clear lake. They stock the lake according to the hotel owner and my son caught two trout in less than 1/2 hour. We also visited the Robinson Casino for a little while tonight. The hotel had internet access so I thought I would drop in.

Yes, and I'm home now.:) Everyone is gone to church and I have an hour to unpack and start dinner. Spent the weekend with my oldest son and my mother.
When the oldest boys were young. I use to, at a moments notice, take one of them on a road trip. Get in the car, had them a map, and say which way?
We did that yesterday. We went to Clear Lake picked up grandma (who had called and said "I want to go.") Then we headed to Willits and then to Ft. Bragg. Saw some redwood forest and the ocean.
Then headed back inland and went to Blue Lake. Spent about 10 hours just driving around with no end point in mind.:) They both loved and it brought back old times. My boy spent the morning fishing and then we headed back home.
