My wife really wants to visit new england in the fall to see the changing colors. Is Maine the place to come for this, and if so, where is the best place to go?

You can go anywhere from the Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York to Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine the first couple weeks in October to see the most beautiful fall colors and scenery. I'm from upstate NY and have relatives in VT and NH. I truly love Vermont particularly the Killington Mtn area for foiliage because of its rural farms and countryside. Do make the trip, you will never forget it!

| So do you consider Vermont to be the best place to go? For some reason the old covered bridges really interest me, as well as old building and the such. Would I get that in Vermont?

I can only recommend VT because that's where we prefer to go. The people are extremely friendly and accommodating. They claim that one doesn't know what mountains are until they come to the "Green Mountain State". But the scenery is gorgeous, country farms, brooks and streams, and you will see deer feeding in the open fields and farms. At Killington Mtn you can also take the ski lifts up to the top and the view all the way up is breathtaking anytime of the year. This Mtn is rather famous as JFK and family as well as different movie stars have been seen skiing there. If you remember The VonTrapp Family the movie "Sound of Music" was about, you might be interested to know that they live there and own a lovely ski lodge near Killington and most are open year round. Lots to do in this area. If your wife likes to shop country stores there are plenty of these along the roadsides. There are also golf courses in case that is your interest and beautiful lakes all over. From this area you can travel to almost any area of Vermont within an hour or so. If you want reservations for skiiing or foiliage peeping you will have to make them very early in the year. These are the busiest times for them. Hope the link below works for you. Now, if you like seafood, Maine is the place to go. Fresh lobster etc. right off the boats. We stay in Kennebunkport when we go. We don't go there much anymore as it is colder and the water is freezing even in summer. We lived in Virginia for a while and the Great Smokey Mtns and the Blue Ridge are also beautiful but bloom much later than up North. Lots to do there also. Hope this helps.http://www.vtattractions.org/?vttourism |

Ahhh duffer, come to Maine for a treat of a lifetime. In the fall, take a moose loop, pick apples and enjoy the splendid colors the state has to offer. Covered bridges? We've got a ton of them-Ayuh!! |

| Maine also has some great sailing.... during the summer. I wouldn't mind going over and cruising the waters of coastal Maine. You guys also have some nice classic boats.
