do you have to hike to this place, or do you drive? is it a state park or are there housing developments on the shore?

Deep Creek is a lovely part of the state (and considering I don't like the state, it must be pretty out there). It's out in western MD, the "handle". Deep Creek Lake is actually a dredged out reservoir, pretty good sized. It's a tourist area: the lake has housing and stuff around it, there's also Wisp which is a ski area. lots of hotels and tons of restaurants. I believe there may be some hiking, in the summer you can always hike around Wisp since they aren't skiing.

We used to go out there for mini-vacations a few times. There are other state parks also out west along the way.
