Default Oh Deer! Backyard Wildlife Photos in Sheridan

Went for a walk yesterday morning down by Sam Mavrakis pond. This area is right in the middle of town. Here's a few photos of the mule deer I saw while walking...

Backyard wildlife

Strike a pose! lol...

Smile for the camera!

Buncha guys hangin' around...

Poor ol' raggy ear...

A buck I call Swing King

My fav. buck, who I call Marley

And just so you can get an idea of how "unafraid" these deer are... This is not nearly the closest I've been to them. As you can see, Riley's good about remaining calm around the deer.

Beautiful photo's. Yes, I agree, they are getting too friendly.

Several years ago, my 10 year old son was riding home on his bicycle and there were about 15 deer standing on the road. He road up close thinking they'd run. Nope. So he flapped his arms and yelled at them. They started walking toward him. He turned around and hauled butt. Then called me to come get him. haha

Thanks everyone. I am Megan I only put my sig on the two that I thought I might play around with & make into post cards/prints (taking a second look at Ol' Raggy ears there, I don't think he makes the cut, lol). I've been daydreaming all day about going camping in the comming spring, later tonight or tomorrow I'll post some photos of the area I'm planning to camp.

Wyo, that buck I call Marley, when the rut was in full swing this year he came within a few feet in front of me. Had my heart beating a little fast. When I was taking these photos, the first group of deer I came upon were a bit friendly for comfort. I had to wave my arms and say "Go!" about 4-5 times before they slowly turned and moved off.

Those antlered types get a bit territorial - and the hormones wipe out their normal dosage of fear.
I used to ride the Tetons and Absarokas - spotting for the guides a couple days before the Elk hunts ... and it was totally inadvisable to get near their rutting spots as not only do they get territorial, they get downright dangerous - but that was fine 'cause the best way was to ride to the highest peak around and spot them with binoculars. Some butt heads for hours. Only problem up high like that was, that clump of berry bushes I'd hunker-down beside sometimes had a bear browsing the other side of the bush! Horses would always alert first though - and the bear would almost always amble off before we got too close but sometimes, had to tie up the horses quite a ways away from the top to keep from spooking the game. Always remember - the hooves of deer and elk are super sharp and will lay you open right off if you get unfortunately close. Keep the dogs under your spell.
